Harbour Andros Information
Andros Ferries
Andros port Gavrio is the first target
With a length of 40 kilometers and a width of 16 kilometers is Andros the second largest island of the Greek Cyclades. Like many other Greek islands Andros can be best reached by ferry. The ferries from the neighbour islands Rafina, Syros and Mykonos call regularly at the harbour Gavrio. Not all of the Cyclades Islands are touristically developed like Andros: besides numerous hotels and holiday homes there are also several small museums, many small shops and inviting tavernas. Therefore, this island is not only interesting for a daily visit but also for a longterm stay. Seaside vacationers love the shallow water and the beautiful beaches. From Andros many other locations can be visited.
The ferry network connects Andros to many other Greek ports
The ferry network in Greece is developed rather well and especially in the summertime it is heavily frequented. No matter if one uses his own car or not island hopping is simple and easy. The best way to reach the Cyclades Islands or any other of the numerous smaller islands is by ferry from the Greek mainland or from Italy. The big passenger ferries to Greece only call at the big ferry ports. This is for example Naxos on the Cyclades or Patras on the Pelopnnesus. From there smaller ships transport the tourists to the smaller islands. It is not possible to discover all the Greek islands during one stay because the country has about 3000 islands. That is the reason why Greece has such a good ferry network. As most of the islands are inhabited the whole year, the ferries are not only a means of transportation for the tourists but also for many natives who can't afford an own boat.
