Ferry Harbour Igoumenitsa Information

Ferries Igoumenitsa

Beautiful Greek north

Greece has a lot of attractions for its tourists: a Mediterranean climate all year round, many islands and thousands of kilometres of gorgeous coast areas. The north of the country with its seaport Igoumenitsa is well known because of its ferry connection to Italy.

The highest frequented routes are the ferry connections from Venice to Igoumenitsa, Ancona to Igoumenitsa or from Brindisi to Igoumenitsa. The ferry crossing from Italy’s east coast takes about 15 hours. Many different shipping companies shuttle this route, some have so-called fast ferries, which allow for a faster crossing. They take about 11 hours. Besides, there is also a ferry from the favoured island Corfu to Igoumenitsa.

Places of interest in Igoumenitsa

In the small town of Igoumenitsa with its 11,000 inhabitants tourism is one of the principal sources of income. Many tourists come to this region because of the many gorgeous sandy beaches and its lonely bays. The town itself looks back on a long history. Some of the places of interest remind us to former times. Among them the relicts of a Turkish castle from the Middle Ages.

Moreover, a walk on the miles long boardwalk which connects Igoumenitsa with the Drepano Beach is very nice. Many natives use the path along the coast for jogging, biking or skating. In the city centre there are a lot of small shops, a market that takes place regularly and nice tavernas and bars.

Many things of the daily demand can be bought here without any problem. The town is well-known because of the production of typical jewelry. Even the neighbor villages in the Region Thesprotia are worth visiting: among them Ladochoril, Kriovrisi and Agia Marina.
