Harbour Bergen Information
Ferry Bergen
By ferry to Bergen
Norway is sparsely populated and attracts tourists especially because of its untouched nature, numerous fjords and the rough climate. Many Germans take the ferry to Norway to spend their holidays there. There is a direct ferry connection from Newcastle or from several Scandinavian ports like the route Bergen – Hirtshals in Denmark. The journey by ferry is of advantage for the tourists who want to discover Norway by car as they can bring their car. Bergen is a favorite starting point for round trips through Scandinavia.
Bergen has a lot of places of interest
Most of the Norway tourists leave for the open land after their arrival in the Bergen port but even the cities have a lot to offer. Behind Oslo, Bergen is the second largest city of the country and has a lot of places of interest with regard to its eventful history and regarding the latest developments. Among them is the well-known Hanse quarter Bryggen that consists of historical framehouses. The network of narrow streets that is located at the eastside of the Bergen Bay has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. There is no other place with such a lot of well conserved traditional framehouses. The fish market in the city center where there are still offered fresh fish and other typically Norwegian culinary delights such as elk salami is also worth visiting. As the fish market is not far away from the port many visitors who come by ferry to Bergen it is the first place to go.
