Visit the north of Spain by ferry

Over one million inhabitants live in Bilbao and are as happy as a sandboy. There is no other metropolis at the Mediterranean where people benefit from such a unique scenic variety: sea, city life, mountains, forests and fertile fields. Almost all sceneries are in the close proximity of the city. For a long time this variety has been an insider tip. But an increasing amount of tourists discover the Basque region.

In Spain a ferry is a frequently used means of transportation. Even to Bilbao a ferry is quite comfortable, because the modern Bilbao port has all prerequisites that are necessary for passenger shipping. The tourists come to the Spanish north from France and England. Many large shipping companies, as e.g. P& O Ferries, have included Bilbao in their network. The route Bilbao – Portsmouth is heavily frequented in summertime.

Many places of interest in Bilbao

Once you arrived in Bilbao you won’t be bored! Since some years this city has been a real paradise for lovers of architecture and art. Among these places of interest are e.g. the famous new Gugenheim museum, the Euskalduna congress and music palace, the metro by star architect Sir Norman Foster and many other modern buildings of famous architects.

In short: Bilbao has such a lot of places of interest that the visitor can easily spend several days there. But also with regard to the gastronomy there are a lot of new things to discover: the delicious pintxos which are small appetizers and all sorts of fish specialities. As Bilbao is the capital of codfish there are many restaurants that prepare this fish in many different versions.

The coastal area around Bilbao is either steep and cliffy or broad and sandy. Even the interior, Spain’s green lung, is worth visiting. The best way to discover the rural region is on a walking tour or by bike.
