Harbour Corfu Information

Ferry Corfu

By ferry to Corfu

There’s a busy shipping traffic between the Ionian Islands and the mainland. Therefore, Corfu can easily be reached by ferry and moreover, from there one can make several day trips. The most popular connections are the ferries from Corfu to Bari, Corfu to Brindisi or Corfu to Patras, a large seaport on the mainland. Especially during the high season the Corfu ferries are very busy.

Corfu’s places of interest

Contrary to prejudice Corfu has a lot more to offer than only sun and beaches. One of the most popular places of interest is the “Achillion”, the former summer residence of Empress Sissi. From there one has a marvelous view over the sea. The old Venetian town of Kerkyra, the main town of the island, is worthwhile seeing as well.

There are a lot of nice shops and inviting tavernas in the many small streets.  From the mountain in the north of the island one can enjoy a breathtaking view. At its highest point Mount Pantokrator has 906 meters. During clear weather the southern tip of Italy can be seen from there. Even hiking enthusiasts get their money’s worth.

Corfu’s characteristics

The island Corfu in Greece has a width of only nine kilometers but a length of about 60 kilometers and about 113,000 inhabitants live there. Thus, Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian Islands. Corfu is considered to be a green island because of its abundant vegetation.

Kefalonia, the island nearby, is a bit larger. Especially tourists from Northern Europe like Corfu because of the favorable temperatures from spring to autumn. This weatherability attracts on the one hand tourists who prefer package holidays and on the other hand also free independent travelers and tourists who prefer educational journeys.
