Ferry Patras

Patras – gateway to Greece

Greece is an interesting destination for all the people who want to take a time-out, be it on the beach, in museums or on a discovery tour to the places of interest that tell about Greece’s history. The seaport Patras is said to be the gateway to Greece. The port of Patras is one of the most important ports in Greece. The city at the Gulf of Patras is not only important with regard to trade but also regarding tourism.

From Venice to Patras by ferry

Thanks to the port of Patras one can easily get from Italy to the Greek mainland and back. The ferries from Venice to Patras provide for the transport of many tourists from the north of Italy to Greece.  The tourists who want to leave from Southern Italy take the ferry connection in Apulia, Bari – Patras. Further north there are ferry connections from Ancona to Patras. Ancona is a seaport as well that is located in the province of the same name.

European Capital of Culture thanks to old streets

A large number of fishing boats and sailing boats influence the appearance of the seaport. If one wants to have a good vantage point to watch the hustle and bustle in the port, one should visit the small pine forest Dassylion. The view is really marvelous.

Architecture enthusiasts will love the Apollon theatre which was built in 1872 and amateur archaeologists will be impressed by the finds from the Classic, Hellenistic and Roman times in the antique Odeon. In 2006 Patras was named European Capital of Culture because of its well-preserved small streets and the citadel. A lot of cafés and small shops attract the visitors as well.
