Whether the tourists prefer sunbathing or tracing the past the Greek islands provide lots of possibilities for all those who want to enjoy the summer or prefer to expand their cultural horizon or simply enjoy the wonderful nature.
Greece’s diversity can be discovered on the Greek archipelago Santorini that is located in the south of the Cyclades. Thira is the most important island of the archipelago and is sickle-shaped.
The archipelago with its 90 square kilometers is located about 100 kilometers from Crete. The highest elevation on Thira is Mount Elias that has an altitude of 565 meters.
By ferry from Santorini to Heraklion (Crete) and Naxos
There are two ports in Santorini. Athinios port is for ferries and the Old Port is for cruise ships only. Passengers who come from other islands or from the mainland will certainly dock in Athinios port.
The ferry Piraeus – Santorini is the best means of transport when travelling from the Greek mainland to the archipelago. Island hopping is interesting for all those tourists who want to visit several Greek islands.
The ferry Heraklion (Crete) – Santorini takes tourists from the popular bigger island to the small archipelago. There is also a connection to the holiday paradise of Naxos: the ferry Santorini – Naxos.
The website www.ocean24.de provides detailed timetables of the ferries and a passage can also be booked there right away. The ticket for the desired ferry is just a few mouse clicks away.
Good wine and many sunny days
Volcanic soil is the main reason for the production of the extraordinarily good wine of Santorini which is called „vino santo“. Another reason is the sun. Santorini has the highest amount of sunlight hours in Greece per year.
Between June and September tourists can rely on having sunny weather. In general, there is only one rainy day per month. Steep coasts characterize the appearance of the island. There is a black and a red beach on Santorini due to the lava rocks.
